Patrik Antonius

Patrik Antonius pro poker player With a body fit from years of playing tennis and a face that has been a model for quite some time in his youth, Patrik Antonius looks like he doesn't belong indoors, on the poker table.

It's no wonder he is often associated to Brad Pitt. But for other poker players and poker enthusiasts, they know that his face is not one you'd want to see sitting opposite you in a game of poker. He plays with a skillful aggressiveness that makes you think he has been playing poker all his life.

Patrik Antonius was born on December 13, 1980 in Helsinki, Finland. He grew up training to be a professional tennis player. When he was 15, a back injury forced him to rest for a year and a half.

During this time, he would often be found playing poker which he had learned when he was only 11. Even while he was in the army, he practiced tennis whenever he could.

He continued training throughout college until he had another injury around the same back area which ended his dreams of becoming a professional at tennis. He tried various jobs such as a tennis coach, a salesman, and a model, but they did not satisfy the competitive spirit in him.

All this time, he just looked at poker as an entertainment and he would often play Texas Holdem against friends. It was in 2003 that he started playing the game online and when he began winning big bucks he realized that he could make a serious living out of it.

His $200 initial deposit in an online poker room had skyrocketed to $20,000. He focused his time and attention on it for a week and it grew into $80,000.

This was his turning point that made him decide to go professional in poker. By the start of 2004, he was already regarded as one of the best poker players online in all of Europe.

In his first tournament in the World Poker Tour, he ended up in the 12th place and brought home $34,600. In 2005, he won more than $1 million in the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic, where he garnered second place in the No Limit Hold 'em event.

In the 2007 World Series of Poker Pot Limit Omaha event, he took home $311,394 together with the third place title. As of this year, his total winnings from playing in live tournaments exceed $3.3 million.

In 2009, Patrik won the biggest online pot which was $1,356,946. He still plays online poker regularly as part of the team in Full Tilt Poker. He does not make many poker mistakes or give poker tells when he plays on the Web, as his online poker profits are believed to exceed ten million dollars.
